Biodegradation- Life of Science

This book contains a collection of different biodegradation research activities where biological processes take place. The book has two main sections classified as:

A) Polymers and Surfactants Biodegradation This section includes chapters that mention the following topics: Introduction of biosurfactants and their various applications with emphasis on bioremediation; Surfactants and ecotoxicity; Aerobic surfactants’ biodegradation; Creation of Novel Green Surfactants Containing Carbonate Linkages; Chemical structure, sources, production and synthesis methods, physical properties (mechanical, barrier and thermal properties) and applications of the most important biodegradable polymers; Antimicrobial polymers’ modifications; and the last topic is an overview of the mechanisms that influence the biodegradation of polymeric materials used for medical purposes, with special emphasis on the immunological mechanisms that modulate biodegradation rates and biocompatibility, and on the features that are related to the central nervous system.

B) Biodegradation: Microbial Behaviour The second section includes: Insecticide resistance of bumblebee species; Biodegradation of synthetic detergents; Mechanism, genetics and strategies to enhance the pesticide-biodegradation process; Biodegradation: Involved Microorganisms and Genetically Engineered Microorganisms; Microbial reduction of hexavalent chromium as a mechanism of detoxification and possible bioremediation applications; and the last topic: Contribution to biodegradation from extractants in the natural resistance of wood.
